Avalon Pier
The Avalon Pier is located in Kill Devil Hills in OBX. Built in 1958, Avalon Pier is one of the oldest in the Outer Banks. The pier house has many fishing amenities, including bait and tackles with fresh and artificial bait, gear, and rentals. Open March through November, expect to find flounder, trout, stripers, and more on your line and in your bucket. Stop by the arcade, play pool, or just come for the best fish around. Nags Head Fishing Pier
Iconic Nags Head Pier was built in 1947 and is currently the second oldest pier in Outer Banks. Next to the pier is a grassy area with tables, games, and bike racks. At 1000 ft, the pier is long enough to spread out and find a great fishing spot for the day. Nags Head Fishing Pier is open Easter through Thanksgiving and all day and night during the summer. Stop by the tackle shop for your rental needs, from rods to bait and tackle. Stock up on snack supplies to keep you hydrated and going for those long, quiet stretches on the pier waiting for a bite. For a larger meal, step into the Pierhouse Restaurant before or after a day on the pier for breakfast, lunch, or dinner (with lots of fresh fish to nibble on). Step into Andy’s Oceanfront Tiki Bar & Grill to fry up your catch. Enjoy live music in the summer with a beautiful view and memories of a great day of fishing.

Jennette’s Pier
Take time out to visit Jennette’s Pier; you won’t be disappointed. Built in 1939, Jennette’s Pier is one of the oldest in North Carolina. Hurricane Isabel nearly destroyed it in 2003 but it was rebuilt and revitalized. The landmark pier offers a gorgeous on-site aquarium, gift shop, and food and supplies. Take A class, watch a kids’ fishing tournament, or just hang out on the pier waiting for an incredible Catch. People can also rent the pier for special occasions. Purchase one fishing license to cover everyone.

Kitty Hawk Pier
Built-in 1953, Kitty Hawk Pier was damaged by Hurricane Ian in 2003 but was acquired by a local hotel in 2006. Overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, the Pier House offers 2200 square feet of the wood interior with beautiful views and space for special events. The pier deck overlooks the water and has gorgeous views of wildlife in the water. Visitors can enjoy the pier for wedding receptions and social events, buy Hilton Garden Inn’s property is accessible for guests only, except for fishing. Passes for non-guests are $20 or free for guests of the hotel.

Outer Banks Fishing Piers
The Outer Banks Fishing Pier goes 600 feet out over the water with a beautiful ocean view. Great OBX fishing piers are all over, but this one has some of the best fishing. Built in 1959, the pier is 600 feet over the water in South Nags Head. Shop at the on-site bait and tackle shop or visit the on-site restaurant, Fish Heads Bar & Grill. Dine on fresh catches, but grab a pass before heading out.

A few other piers of note are Bonner Pier, which opened in 2021, a 1,000-foot and was once the southern terminal to Bonner Bridge. The fishing pier is public and accessible, with no fishing pass required. Enjoy fishing off the pier while taking in some breathtaking views. Rodanthe Pier is at the northern tip of Hatteras Island with an on-site bait and tackle shop. Buy souvenirs and snacks, and hang out listening to music. A popular spot to take photos and featured in the 2008 movie ‘Nights in Rodanthe.’ Grab a pass before heading out. Avon Fishing Pier is in Avon Village near Koru Beach Klub. Listen to summertime music concerts and view the Atlantic Ocean nearby. Shop for bait, gear, and cold drinks. Nearby is the Avon by the Sea RV Park opened in 2022, close to a kids’ playground and a great place to spend time with family and friends.
